DJI Avata 2 • Drone Class - Drone

DJI has introduced its latest FPV drone, the DJI Avata 2. This is the third generation of ready-to-fly FPV drone. DJI’s latest FPV drone comes with a number of improvements in image quality and usability with the C1 label provided. In this blog we list all the new specifications.

Improved video quality and stabilization

Now DJI has improved the video quality. The DJI Avata 2 is equipped with a 1/1.3-inch CMOS video sensor and can record in 4k/60fps. This larger sensor allows the camera to capture more light, making your shots sharper and more detailed. The 10-bit D-Log M color profile offers you more options when editing images.

The images from the DJI Avata 2 are stabilized with RockSteady3.0+ and HorizonSteady. This software ensures smooth, stabilized recordings, even at high speeds.

Advanced FPV flight goggles and controllers

DJI Goggles 3 displays the DJI Avata 2 camera image in 1080/100 fps or 1080/60 fps. A new feature of the DJI Goggles 3 is Real View PiP (Picture in Picture). This displays the drone’s camera image in the area where you are currently flying. This new feature means you no longer need to carry an observer with you as you can fly the drone within visual range.

There are two options for controlling the drone:

  • DJI FPV Remote Controller 3
Control via the DJI Remote Controller follows the familiar sticks and buttons.
  • DJI Motion Controller 3
Converts the movements of your hand and wrist into control signals for the drone.

The FPV Remote Controller 3 is intended for pilots who prefer to control a drone with two sticks. Our experiences with the motion controller are positive.

FPV drone flight with ease thanks to the flight modes

The different flight modes make the DJI Avata 2 a perfect drone for FPV drone beginners. The controller has a return to home button. There are other options to quickly switch between different flight modes. And finally there is an emergency brake and a hover button.

The DJI Avata 2 introduces Easy ACRO mode. At the push of a button, the DJI Avata 2 performs advanced FPV maneuvers such as:

  • One push flip
Perform a 360° flip forward or backward and give your shots a new spin.
  • One push roll
Roll 360° left or right and transform any shot from ordinary to magical.
  • One-push 180° drift
Perform high-speed side drifts followed by a 180° yaw turn past objects and a rapid retreat for dramatic effect.

This means that you don’t have to be very good at flying. Of course, the challenge for advanced pilots is being able to perform these stunts manually.

FPV drone with C1 tag

The DJI Avata 2 is DJI’s first FPV drone with a Cx label. This brings a number of advantages. The first generation DJI FPV and DJI Avata do not have a Cx label. This means that these drones can only be flown in subcategory A3, within 150 meters of buildings and people.

This means that these drones can only be flown in subcategory A3, within 150 meters of buildings and people.

The DJI Avata 2 has a C1 label. This means that this drone is allowed to fly in the A1 s subcategory. Flying over buildings and over a single uninvolved person is permitted provided the requirements of subcategory A1 are met. Therefore, the flight must always be carried out in uncontrolled airspace. The pilot has registered as an operator and holds an A1/A3 certificate.

The C1 label allows drone pilots access to more locations to create dynamic FPV images. A much-needed upgrade, we think.
